Can I arrange an artificial leg for a relative in Pakistan while living abroad?

Yes. You contact the clinic on WhatsApp from any country. Your relative is assessed in Karachi, with you on a video call if you wish. The itemised quotation in rupees is sent to you directly. You receive official receipts for every payment, and photos or short videos at the cast, the test socket and the first steps, so you can see each stage for yourself.

How it works

Six steps, with you informed at each one

  1. Step 1

    You message us

From any country, at any hour. Tell us the amputation level, the date of surgery, the reason, the age and the city. Add photos if the family can send them.

  2. Step 2

    Assessment in Karachi

Your relative comes to the Gulshan-e-Iqbal or DHA clinic. If you wish, you join by video call and hear the findings first hand.

  3. Step 3

    Written quotation, sent to you

Every part on its own line, with maker and model, what is included, and how long the price is held. In rupees, with the equivalent in your currency on that day if you ask.

  4. Step 4

    You approve, and pay

Nothing is made until you agree. Payment details are given with the quotation. An official receipt is issued for every payment and sent to you.

  5. Step 5

    Updates as it is made

A photo or short video at the cast, the test socket fitting, and the first steps between the bars. You see what your money has become.

  6. Step 6

    After delivery

You have our number. If your relative reports a problem, you can ask us directly, and we will tell you plainly what is needed.

Your concerns

What people in your position worry about, answered

Is the clinician qualified?

Your relative is seen by a degree qualified prosthetist trained at PIPOS, the national institute for this profession. His full profile and an independent listing are linked from this site.

Will the money be spent on what was quoted?

The quotation names each part by maker and model. You may ask for a photo of any imported part in its sealed packaging with its serial number before it is fitted.

Will my father be pressured into a costly leg?

No. We routinely advise older patients toward simpler, safer, cheaper builds. If a basic leg is right for him, that is what we will recommend to you.

Who helps him at home afterwards?

We teach a family member in Karachi the skin check, the socks and the exercises, and we remain reachable to both of you.

What helps most

What you can do from where you are

Paying is the smaller part of what you can contribute. These matter more to the outcome.

  • Get the timing right. Contact us in the first two weeks after surgery. We will guide the family on bandaging and positioning, which decide how good the final leg can be.
  • Name one person in Pakistan as the helper. A son, daughter or nephew who attends every visit and learns the home care.
  • Ask for the discharge slip and X rays to be photographed and sent to us.
  • Make sure his other foot is looked after, especially if he is diabetic. It is now doing double work.
  • Encourage, do not rush. Older patients are often frightened of falling. Daily calls from you to ask about the exercises do more than you would think.
  • Budget for the second year. A replacement socket will be needed after six to eighteen months. It is expected, not a fault.

Paying

Currency, payment and paperwork

Currency

All quotations are in Pakistani rupees, because labour and parts are paid for in rupees. Exchange rates move, so we do not publish foreign currency prices. Ask us for the equivalent on the day you are ready to decide.

Payment

Payment details are sent with the written quotation. Many families abroad simply remit to the relative in Pakistan through their usual channel, and the relative pays at the clinic. In every case an official receipt is issued and a copy sent to you.

Paperwork for insurers and employers

If your employer, an insurer or a community fund in your country will contribute, we provide an itemised invoice in English and a prescription letter describing the amputation and the device.

Validity

Each quotation states how many days the figure is held. This matters most where imported parts are involved.

Bringing parts

Should you buy a knee or a foot abroad and send it?

It can make sense if

  • we have agreed the exact model, side, size and weight category with you in advance
  • you can buy from an authorised supplier with a proper invoice
  • someone is carrying it by hand, so customs delays do not hold up the fitting
  • you accept that warranty service will be through the country of purchase

It usually does not if

  • you are choosing the part yourself from a website. Categories are easy to get wrong and returns are difficult.
  • it is a used or online marketplace item. We cannot vouch for a part with no history.
  • it must come by freight. Duty, clearing and delay often wipe out the saving.
  • it is an electronic knee. It will need programming tools and authorised service that may not be reachable here.

The socket, which matters most, can only be made here, from his body. Please speak to us before buying anything.

If you are the patient

Overseas Pakistanis having their own leg made in Karachi

Some of the people who contact us from abroad are the patients themselves. Skilled labour costs far less in Pakistan, while imported parts, if you want them, are the same parts. The saving on a complete leg can be considerable.

  • Plan a stay of two to three weeks for a below knee leg, three to four for above knee, so that training is not rushed.
  • December and the summer holidays are our busiest periods for visitors from abroad. Book your dates early.
  • Bring your current leg, and any records from your prosthetist abroad.
  • Choose parts that are also serviceable in the country where you live, and ask us for a full parts list and alignment record to take back.
  • Expect that a prosthetist abroad may be reluctant to adjust a socket made elsewhere. Allow time for a follow up visit before you fly.

Questions

Questions from families abroad

Ask your own question on WhatsApp

What time can I call from the Gulf, the UK or North America?

Any time. Calls and WhatsApp are answered 24/7, so contact us when it suits your working day. Pakistan is one hour ahead of the UAE, two ahead of Saudi Arabia, four to five ahead of the UK, and nine to ten ahead of the US east coast.

How much should I budget?

As an indicative 2026 guide in rupees: a below knee leg PKR 80,000 to 350,000 and an above knee leg PKR 150,000 to 600,000 with local and mid range parts, more with imported parts. Allow for a replacement socket in the second year.

My father is in another city in Pakistan, not Karachi. Can you still help?

Yes. Patients travel to us from across Sindh and Balochistan and further. We assess by WhatsApp first and group all the clinic visits into one stay in Karachi.

Can I be on a video call during the fitting?

Yes, if your relative is comfortable with it. Many sons and daughters join for the assessment and again for the first steps.

Can I speak to the prosthetist directly?

Yes. After the assessment he will explain the findings and the recommendation to you himself, by call or voice note.

What if my father refuses to wear the leg after all this?

It happens, usually from fear or discomfort, and both can be addressed. Tell us early. A socket adjustment, more training sessions, and steady encouragement from you resolve most cases.

Arranging this from overseas?

Message us on WhatsApp from any country, at any hour. Tell us the level, the date of surgery and the city, and we will take it from there with you.
