What is the price of an above knee artificial leg in Karachi?
As an indicative 2026 guide, a basic above knee leg in Karachi costs about PKR 150,000 to 280,000, a mid range leg with a four bar knee about PKR 280,000 to 600,000, a leg with an imported hydraulic knee about PKR 600,000 to 1,500,000, and one with a microprocessor knee from about PKR 1,500,000 upward. The knee joint is the largest single factor.

Start with the safer, cheaper knee
In the first six months on an above knee leg, you are learning balance and hip control. A sophisticated knee cannot help you until you have those. A simple, stable knee will.
- Begin with a locking, safety or four bar knee that you trust completely.
- Put the money saved into the socket, with two test sockets if needed, and into extra training.
- After six to twelve months, when the first replacement socket is due, review the knee.
- If you are now walking outdoors, changing pace and managing stairs, a hydraulic knee will reward you.
- If you are walking mainly at home, keep the simple knee and keep the money.
The one exception: if the family can comfortably fund a microprocessor knee, its stumble protection helps less steady users from the first day.
Yearly running costs for an above knee leg
- Liner, if used: one a year. Roughly PKR 20,000 to 60,000 mid range, more for imported.
- Socks, belts and small items: roughly PKR 5,000 to 15,000.

Why is an above knee leg so much more than a below knee leg?

Is a PKR 200,000 above knee leg any good?
