Turkish makers: Ortotek and Proted

Turkey has become a significant source of prosthetic components over the past two decades, supplying both its own large health system and export markets. Two names appear most often on quotations in this region: Ortotek and Proted.

Are Turkish prosthetic components any good?

Yes. The established Turkish makers produce knees, feet, liners and suspension parts to European standards, and their products are accepted by public health funders in European countries. Ortotek and Proted both offer broad ranges at prices well below German parts. They are a sound middle tier for users who want documented, tested components without the top tier cost.

The makers

Who they are

Ortotek

A Turkish maker with a wide catalogue: mechanical and pneumatic knees, feet from basic to dynamic, liners, vacuum components and adapters. Often the source of a complete mid range build.

Proted

A Turkish maker of knee joints, feet, liners and vacuum suspension parts. Frequently quoted for polycentric knees and for liners.

How they compare

Similar in scope and price. The choice usually comes down to which specific knee or foot suits the patient, and current availability.

Our honest view

Where they fit, and where they do not

A good choice when

  • the budget is between a local and a German build
  • documents and weight ratings matter to you, as they should
  • a pneumatic or polycentric knee is wanted at a reachable price
  • a matching liner and vacuum parts are wanted from one source

Look elsewhere when

  • an electronic knee is required
  • a top end carbon or hydraulic ankle foot is the priority
  • the exact model wanted is out of stock and time is short
  • paperwork cannot be produced for the part offered
In Karachi

A sensible middle tier for Pakistani budgets

Turkey is closer than Germany or the United States, shipping is quicker, and prices reflect a manufacturing base with lower costs. For a family with three to five lakh rupees for an above knee leg, a Turkish polycentric knee under a carefully made socket is a respectable, durable answer.

As with every import, we write the maker, model and weight category on the quotation, and show you the part before it is fitted.

How we supply them

Imported and fitted to order

Artificial Leg Karachi imports and fits components from these makers to order. We are independent of every manufacturer, recommend by need and budget, and earn nothing from steering you to one name over another. Ranges change, so we confirm the current model, its weight rating and the paperwork before anything is ordered. All maker and product names are trade marks of their owners and are used here only to describe the products.

Are Ortotek and Proted the same company?

No. They are separate Turkish manufacturers with overlapping product ranges.

How do Turkish prosthetic knees compare with Taiwanese ones?

They sit in the same middle tier, with similar prices and testing. We choose between them on the specific model, its weight rating and what is available. See the Teh Lin guide.

Is warranty available on Turkish components in Pakistan?

The maker's warranty applies, handled through the supplier. We state the terms on the quotation.

Can Turkish parts be mixed with other brands in one leg?

Yes. They use the standard adapter system, so a Turkish knee can sit over a foot from any other maker.
