Below knee artificial leg price in Karachi

The same below knee amputation can be fitted for eighty thousand rupees or for nine lakh. Both can be good legs. The difference is the liner, the foot and the socket construction, and whether you need what the dearer one offers.

Which one

Who each build is for

Affordable

An older person who walks at home and to the car. A first leg while the stump is still shrinking. A tight budget where walking now matters more than refinement.

Mid range

Most adults. Diabetic users who need the cushioning of a gel liner. People who work, walk outdoors and want a secure, easy to put on leg.

High activity

Young, fit users who walk far, stand all day, cycle or play sport, and will feel the difference a carbon foot and suction suspension make.

Running costs

What a below knee leg costs to run each year

Families budget for the leg and are surprised by the upkeep. It is modest, but it is real, and knowing it in advance avoids a leg being abandoned for want of a liner.

  • Stump socks: a few sets a year. Roughly PKR 3,000 to 8,000.
  • Liner, if used: one a year in Karachi heat. Roughly PKR 15,000 to 45,000 mid range, more for imported.
  • Annual service: roughly PKR 3,000 to 8,000.
  • Sleeve or strap: every six to twelve months. Roughly PKR 3,000 to 15,000.
  • Foot shell: every one to two years. Roughly PKR 6,000 to 25,000.
  • Replacement socket: once in the first six to eighteen months, then every two to four years. Roughly PKR 40,000 to 150,000.

A sock fit leg costs the least to run. A liner leg costs more each year and protects the skin better. For a diabetic stump that protection is worth it.

Save safely

Where you can save, and where you must not

Safe places to save

  • a SACH or simple multi axis foot in place of carbon, if you walk modest distances
  • no cosmetic cover at first. It can be added any time.
  • a plastic socket for the first leg, since it will be replaced within a year anyway
  • a mid range liner in place of a premium one
  • reusing a sound foot from an old leg

Never save on

  • the test socket. It is the cheapest insurance in the whole process.
  • tested, weight rated adapters and pylon
  • the liner, if the stump is diabetic, scarred or grafted
  • training sessions
  • a qualified prosthetist taking the cast
Over five years

The five year view

Look at cost the way you would for a motorcycle: purchase plus running. Over five years, an illustrative mid range below knee leg looks like this.

First leg about PKR 235,000. One replacement socket in year one or two, about 90,000. A second around year four, about 90,000. Liners, socks, sleeves, shells and servicing, about 40,000 a year. That comes to roughly PKR 600,000 over five years, or about PKR 10,000 a month, for the ability to walk, work and live independently.

Set against a wage restored, or a family member freed from full time caring, it is among the best value spending in all of healthcare. We say this not to sell, but because families often see only the first figure and lose heart.

Questions

Below knee price questions

Ask your own question on WhatsApp

Why is there such a wide range for the same amputation?

Because the foot alone ranges from about PKR 12,000 to 300,000 and more, and the liner from about 10,000 to 90,000 and more. The socket labour varies much less. Choose the parts that match how you live.

Is the basic leg safe?

Yes, provided the socket is properly made and the adapters are tested parts. It is heavier and less lively than a dearer leg, not less safe.

Do prices include training and adjustments?

Yes. The agreed training sessions and the adjustments in the first month are part of every new leg and are written on the quotation.

Will the price change after I am quoted?

Not within the validity period written on the quotation, unless you ask for a different part. Imported parts are tied to the exchange rate, which is why the validity period matters.

Can I start basic and upgrade later?

Yes, and it is often the wisest path. Parts are modular. Many people upgrade the foot at the time of their first replacement socket, when they know how active they really are.
